Baccarat rules and hand values
Baccarat is a card game where the player and banker each receive two cards. The goal is to predict which hand will have a total closest to nine. Card values are: Ace = 1, 2–9 = face value, 10 and face cards = 0. If the total exceeds nine, only the last digit counts. For example, a 7 and 8 total 15, which counts as 5 in baccarat.
After the initial two cards are dealt, a third card may be drawn based on fixed rules. If either hand totals 8 or 9 after the first two cards, no third card is drawn (this is called a "natural"). If the player's hand totals 5 or less, the player draws a third card. The banker's draw depends on the player's third card and the banker's total. All draws follow predetermined rules; the croupier handles them automatically.
